With the fear in the economy, rising inflation and interest rates venture capital investment has gone down considerably in Europe, the USA and now also in Asia.
Recent data compiled by Crunchbase shows what is happenig in Asia at the moment. The second quarter of 2022 saw a 19% decline when compared to the first, and a 20% drop from the same quarter in 2021. Funding to startups in the region hit $28.1 billion, a significant decline from the $51.5 billion raised in just the final quarter of last year. It also is the lowest total since the first quarter of 2020.
Interestingly angel investment in Asia has grown almost 50% compared to last year, but as very early stage investment is only a small fraction of the total, it cannot change the downward trend for the sector.
